Helium Fuse: A rise from the ashes of death, dysfunction and crimes committed against them. It isn’t just Helium Fuse’s vast sonic scope, tommy-gun beats, and borderline madhouse arrangements that make them who they are, it’s the band's finesse. Like their rock mentors, Helium Fuse employs a guitar style that commands attention, a take-no-prisoners percussion style, chest thumping bass riffs and a vocal style and feel that will leave you wanting more and more. Guitarist Jimmy Peace fosters the group with a unique understanding of the guitar and the recording studio as an instrument in itself. Like Omar Rodriguez, Tom Morello, David Gilmour, and Steve Howe, Peace has a reason for every bit of gain, feedback, delay, and ambient noise that he incorporates. Peace is also fascinated by the soundscapes of Progressive Rock and Dream Rock, giving way to synth injections and soaring vocals across their work. Inspired by Bjork, Sigur Ros, and Pink Floyd, Helium Fuse inlays a spectrum of ambient textures over their rock foundation, uplifted by Drummer Walt Zel and topped off by Bassist/Vocalist Tragic Johnson. But this new sound was born in a troubled turbulent past. In 2005, Peace was on a tightrope. He’d spent years touring and doing session work for top major and independent artists (NIN, Radiohead, Linkin Park, etc.). But when he lost his bassist and long-time friend to suicide, his band was spun into chaos. To make matters worse he was still recovering from losing gear in a studio break-in. The offender turned out to be a close acquaintance and Peace was even forced to clear his own name. Times were tough. Walt Zel (kin to drummer/composer Gene Krupa) spent his formative musical years cutting his teeth and honing his unique and innovative drumming style with such bands as PLH, THC, Liquid, and Absolute Zero building a raucous and uncompromising technique and meter that displays how vital a drummer truly is to an ensamble. An accomplished studio musician as well, Zel embodies the true meaning and definition of rhythm which has placed his talent in high demand throughout the musical community. He displays a fervent fury that would force most percussionists to re-evaluate their skill and commitment to the craft. Tragic Johnson, an unparalleled vocalist and multi-instrumentalist serving in such bands as Dogma, Kiva and Liquid, as well as a prolific solo career started his musical life's endeavor amidst adversity and strife known by few and understood by even fewer. Not one to allow such happenings to hinder his spirit, young Tragic found solace in the beautiful and mystical art and privilege of music. His bass style incorporates classic styles and rhythms yet brings heart and soul to any mix. Vocally he invokes anything from classic motown to metal but still keeps an originality not yet seen before creating a stylistic blend pleasing to any palate. The stars eventually aligned when Peace and long time friend and former bandmate Zel reunited to take the reigns in their own original project; Helium Fuse and even more so when Tragic (also a longtime friend and former bandmate of Zel) was recruited to complete the lineup. The band is constantly exploiting their sound, recording in their personal studio and entertaining crowds online and in person. Their dynamic performance is proof of their genuine passion for music and leaves interpretation up to the listener. Thus far, those interpretations have been wildly emotive and supportive. The sky is literally the limit for these three as they continue to evolve and explore beyond their musical boundaries. Experience Helium Fuse; The escape. The experience.
