Stephen Mcbrine aka Boru was born in 1969 to an Irish family in the town of West Bromwich Staffordshire. He always says, to everyone who will listen, is that the interesting fact about his birth is that he has a lot in common with the Irish rock musician Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, that they were born in the same hospital.....Hallam Hospital. Being proud of his Irish heritage he took the name of Boru from Brian Boru, an ancient high king from whom his surname derives. Growing up in an Irish Roman Catholic family presented its own set of problems in that when he reached the age of 26 he came out as homosexual to his family. He is on record saying, "From that day on his life changed and relationships within the family deterioated. Working for the family business proved difficult so he decided to leave and make his own way through life. Stephen endured many years of ups, downs and rejections but despite everything he managed to create a life for himself, a life that was to bring marriageand happiness. Stephen and his partner George married in April 2012 and emigrated to a new life in Canada. Unfortunately, after a severe stroke George died in March 2015. Of that time in his life Stephen said, "The hardest after losing George was the realisation that because of my family rejections I felt lonely and far from home. Drawing on his life experiences he then decided to do what he had always felt he should be doing, establishing himself as a musical artist. He teamed up with an international music producer called Bob Gablehouse of Big Audio Productions in Kelowna, British Columbia. The result was a debut CD of his own original material. "Bob brought my songs to life," he said. "He taught me how to structure and make song feel complete. I would now like people to enjoy and connect with the album in their own specific way. I have learnt through sadness, grief and happiness the importance of music from artists of all tastes and styles. I look back and realise that years ago i would probably have scoffed at a statement like that, but not anymore. Boru has come of age.
