Hot Buttered Elvis was formed in 1998 by Scott Barber, Rob San Pietro, Paul Gonzalez, and Dave Daniels. The band called Woodbridge, VA home and immediately began cutting their teeth with countless live performances in clubs, colleges, and other venues. In 2002, the band recorded their debut CD "Dinner And A Monkey", engineered by Harry Evans at Cue Studios in Falls Church, VA. The release put HBE's brand of music on the map. It was around this time that Hot Buttered Elvis first began experimenting with their alter ego tribute bands. The first, "Amish In Chains" was billed as "An Amish tribute to Alice in Chains" (see video & photo pages), later followed by "Fat Halen" (70s-era Van Halen in inflatable fat-suits) and finally "Nun N Moses", a GnR tribute with nuns and Moses (see video & photo pages) The next few years saw various lineup changes including Mark Davis (ex-Meatmen) replacing Dave Daniels on bass, current bass player Shawn Sharifi replacing Mark Davis, and Mog Hozna replacing Paul Gonzalez on lead guitar. "Occupado!" was the band's second release, recorded at Nazca Studios in Alexandria, VA in 2005 under owner/engineer Carlos Romero. Released in early 2006, highlights include the opening track "Go Fish!" (see music & video pages) and a rocked-up version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" which has been played at Washington Nationals home games (MLB) and was heard nationwide in 2010 on the Today Show (NBC Television). A third batch of material was recorded in 2007, but was never finished due studio complications and yet another lineup change, as lead guitarist Mog Hozna was replaced by Scott Hedges (ex-House of Echo, Post-Modern Blues). In 2008 HBE signed with Reality Entertainment in California and released two "HBE-ized" versions of covers songs: the Black Sabbath inspired "War Pigs 2008" (2008) and a take on Nirvana's "Rape Me" (2009). Both tracks were recorded at Scott Hedge's Dragon's Lair Studio in Silver Spring, MD and were distributed internationally in 2009 (available worldwide via iTunes and brick and mortar retailers). 2010 was a year of near tragedy in the HBE family when bassist Shawn Sharifi was left partially paralyzed following surgery to his spine. The band took a year off from live performing so Shawn could battle back via intense physical therapy. 2011 hopes to be the YEAR of the ELVI as HBE relaunches on March 4th with Scott, Rob, and Shawn plus the addition of new guitarist "JC" (formerly of American Giant). The plan is for extensive live performance, summer recording, and a much anticipated follow-up to "Occupado!" to finally hit stores before Christmas 2011.
