Hello world, meet Illicit, aka “The Friend That Raps”. This talented rapper/friend is a respected member of the Boston hip-hop community and is sure to be on your top 5 list of rappers by the time you finish reading this bio. (But if not, be sure to listen to his latest hits to be convinced!) Illicit was born and raised in Cambridge MA, a neighboring city of Boston. Beginning in his childhood years, he listened to and learned from some of hip hop’s greats including the late Notorious B.I.G, Eminem, Jay-Z and Nas. But from his childhood interest in listening to hip hop grew a young star’s passion to write and perform his own rhymes. When Illicit entered High School he picked up the pen and pad. Writing verses to radio hits and recording these remixes with a $20 mic, Illicit brought these songs to school to let his peers listen to in the back of class. Though his classmates were convinced that the emcee on the tracks was talented, they doubted it was actually their friend. So in order to refute these claims, Illicit made the song “Psychology” (named after the class full of doubters) in which he dropped bar after bar of witty, one-liners about each person in the class, proving once and for all that he was… Illicit, the friend that raps. Since then, Illicit has grown into a multi-talented rapper with an ever-increasing knack for writing and spitting rhymes. He continues to provide listeners with a style of hip hop unique to him that includes clever punchlines, honest lyrics, and a witty playfulness on the mic that matches his happy-go-lucky personality. Illicit brings to the table the lyrical strength and “won’t back down” nature of a battle rapper balanced with the creativity of a mainstream hit-maker, giving him the keys for both a commercially successful and respected career in music. All of these attributes together will make Illicit an invaluable addition to any label’s roster of artists. —- Already in his career, Illicit has opened for such acts as Joe Budden, Sam Adams, Chris Webby, Fashawn, R.A. The Rugged Man, Cassidy, Mr. Cheeks of The Lost Boyz and Sean Price. He also provides intro’s for Boston’s #1 Morning Show “The Ramiro & Pebble’s Morning Show” on JAM’N 94.5. Currently, Illicit is collaborating with Grubby Pawz on an album that is sure to turn a lot of heads. Illicit has a mixtape out titled “The Friend That Raps” with JAMN 94.5’s own and Konvict Live’s DJ Pup Dawg, which you can purchase at http://www.thefriendthatraps.com.
