A phenomenal budding musician already stocking up on credentials, Ian Meyer has played with one of the country's foremost woodwind artists, Chris Vadala, and was the sole recipient of the International Association of Jazz Educators Award in 2008—having only touched a guitar for the first time a mere four years before. In 2004, he started guitar lessons, inspired by the movie School of Rock. He quickly started expanding his playing beyond his rock roots though, drawing strongly from what he found in the improvisational stylings of bands like Phish and The Grateful Dead. This led him into learning new techniques and styles, from jazz to classical to progressive rock to country and gospel. What really stands out with Ian’s music though is how seamlessly he blends his influences, applying them to each other to create something so new, yet familiar and instantly accessible. While the music of Pink Floyd, John Petrucci, Trey Anstasio, Al Di Meola, and Pat Metheney are noticeably vital ingredients, when asked about his influences, he’ll simply reply, “really anyone who loves what they are creating.” Listening and playing with Ian Meyer, that’s definitely one of the first things that comes across: he loves what he does. His passion is really electrifying, not only to listen to, but to share the stage with as well.
