I go by the name of Innerstate Scrilla because I’m always on the road somewhere trying to make money but my Government name is Warren Brown. I was raised by my mom in a single parent home with a brother and sister under Section 8 housing on Atlanta’s Westside. Having money was always an issue growing up with no father around so with me being the oldest but too young to work, I turned to the streets when I was 13. It would have been nice to play sports or something to that nature and do something productive with my life, but that kind of option wasn't presented to me at the time. To make the days go by faster, I would often freestyle amongst my friends and the older dope-boys in the hood and write. I just never took it seriously though. I was a good son to my mother but she was fed up with the life choice I made so one day I promised her that I would at least graduate from high school if I don’t amount to nothing in life and I did. When I was 18, I graduated from Douglass High School, but I had an epiphany after the ceremony was over about how my life should be and what I should do about it if I want things to be better. So I made a bold decision after I received my diploma and joined the United States Marines for 4yrs only to leave with bad credit, divorced with a daughter to raise, all at the age of 23. I found the Marines to be no different than the street life I tried to escape because you had colors you had to wear, rules to abide by so you don’t get killed, and damn near the same guns. After many failed attempts to find a job that pays, I returned back to the same street life I tried to leave behind after high school. I guess I can’t change my stripes no more than a tiger or a zebra. Now at the age of 26, I’m at a point with myself in life that I’ve done it all and seen it all with no regrets. I also have a 5yr old daughter to raise now and the passion for music still. No one I ever heard has really expressed a story similar to mine or at least properly word it the way I know I can coming out the south and we’ve all heard the stories or sermons when it’s our loved ones time to go, mostly all lies, but I don’t want people to speak of me because I’m deceased. I want people to speak of me by how I lived so I’ve decided to become a rap artist.
