He remembers writing his first song: “Yeah, it was a song called “Toto” and it was horrible J It had a Wizard of Oz object lesson woven throughout it, kind of, you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. James Casto started writing songs in high school on an old, out-of-tune, upright piano in his parents basement near Atlanta, GA. He remembers writing his first song: “Yeah, it was a song called “Toto” and it was horrible J It had a Wizard of Oz object lesson woven throughout it, kind of, you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. As bad as the song was, I fell in love with the process of writing songs.” After years of struggling as a musician, Casto felt he had to make a change. He earned an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and set out to make it in the business world by starting his own company. In 2000, he sold his enterprise to a multi-national company and went to work for them. Shortly after 9-11 he realized that he was truly miserable because he had forsaken his passion for songwriting. With fear and doubt, Casto left his lucrative corporate job to pursue music in January 2002. The decision has changed his life. Casto has written songs for country, indie, and gospel artists as well as corporations like Macy’s, Mercy Ships Int., Kroger, and more. He’s recorded four solo projects with his fifth due out this spring/summer. The story of James Casto is about taking a chance, a leap of faith to pursue a passion. Reflecting on the fear and doubt that once held him down, Casto sums up his new life and the lessons he learned in his popular song "Two Inches Deep"... TODAY I'M TAKING BACK MY LIFE, LETTING GO OF THINGS I CANNOT KEEP, ‘CAUSE TODAY I LOOKED UP AND REALIZED I'VE BEEN DROWNING IN WATER TWO INCHES DEEP.
