Named after her mother, she is the second and last born of her family. “Jan-Ice” uses this pseudonym to describe her style, mood, and effects on fans. She holds the potential to freeze one in their tracks, creating instant audiences and captivating them into a frozen position of submission to the refreshing sounds of her cool vocals over frozen tracks (which she thaws with icy hot lyrics). Jan-Ice offers a twist to Hip-Hop Rap. Her poetic delivery covering controversial issues lure intellects and critics to tune into her episodes of expression. Her combined use of articulation and vocabulary, accentuates her vocal clarity, creating a sound refining to the ears. Her lyrical content and creative concepts, shapes her art into a form never expressed before. Incorporating Poetry, Politics, Religion, and the common humors of Life, into her music Jan-Ice creates what she calls “Reality Rap,” in which she captures real life experiences and lyrically translates and delivers comprehension to the ears of receivers. This feisty tomboy, while comfortably sexy in baggy jeans and tight shirts, “Jan-Ice” gives off charm and sex appeal. She represents the face of Hip-Hop for females in a male dominated industry. Surely, there has been no female rapper up to date that has demonstrated the amount of talent, charisma, intelligence, and power that “Jan-Ice” gives off. This calls for the attention of Hip-Hop lovers, whom of which are in dire need of a lyrical heroine. Multi-talented, the heroine prodigy found herself onstage at the tender age of five taking the lead role as “Rudolph” in the childhood play and story book “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” Janice was an active participant in various extra curricular activities at Miami Norland Senior High School, including the Marching Band (alto saxophonists), Speech and Debate, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), President of the Afro-American History club, President of the Drama club, Christian rapper for the Gospel choir, and writer for the school paper. In 1998, Janice was awarded in the Theodore Gibson Oratorical Project for the Senior High Division for writing and performing a self written monologue winning first place in the original oratory category. She went on pursuing her poetry, short stories, speeches, essays, and spoken word lyrics traveling with the NAACP-ACTSO program, the Live Poets Society, and Ricky Norris of WEDR’S 99Jamz putting on stage shows for major and local events including the MLK (Martin Luther King Jr.) parade, Arabian Knights Festival, Roots festival, Mango festival etc, just to name a few. In 2001, she studied Musical and Dramatic Theatre at the New World School of the Performing Arts in Miami, FL. In September of 2007, she teamed with the ADMIT Program (Alternate Directions Music Industry Training) and recorded a motivational song for the Florida Marlins entitled “Swing for the Fences,” encouraging students to stay in school. She took part in a collaborative project by the University of Miami and Youth Expressions, both as a member and certified HIV/AIDS trainer, performing plays covering areas such as sexuality, self-esteem, drug/alcohol prevention, and similar topics, with an organization called FLOW (Future Leaders of the World), a healthy and positive public service messaging by and for youth through urban performing and visual arts. The city of Hallandale was honored to present consecutive performances by Jan-Ice for the 2007 & 2009 Martin Luther King Jr. festivities and events celebration. She also served as a judge on the panel for the City of Miami Gardens 2nd annual MLK Performance Poetry Contest. Currently Janice represents a non-profit organization by the name of KAPOW (Kids At the Power Of Work). Every Friday she attends Miami Norland Elementary School to teach kids the power of education in school as it applies to the work field. Janice is currently enrolled at Miami Dade College as a Music Business Major, where she is an active participant in the MEISA (Music Entertainment Industry Student Association) and the Conquering Public Speaking Club. She can also be commended on her Entrepreneurial efforts as a self publisher of Ice Popps Publishing. Because of her accreditation as a writer, “Jan-Ice” sustains the ability to create her niche market one song at a time.
