If you’ve never heard of him before it probably has to do with his headlong opposition to (almost) the entire music industry. In talking with him he made it very clear that he couldn’t understand why in the digital era any performer would want to have ten people lined up to make money off of their work before they even got a dime. Personally I could see his point, but on the other hand it may have something to do with why you haven’t heard his name before.
His recent “solo” album “Life Without Sophia” is a work of passion, community, and friendship. He loved sharing with me the fact that every person involved in the cd was a friend, right down to the graphic design and duplication. After listening to him and his group of friends, which includes some of the finest names and greatest unknowns in Manitoba music, quite frankly, I’d be willing to pay admission just to spend a Saturday night in his studio.
