If you are a true hip-hop fan, you can appreciate a new artist who is naturally talented and immediately grabs the ears of all those listening. The music industry is so saturated with generic gimmicks, that when a true talent emerges, it is so refreshing. Adam “Jax” Jackson born in Norfolk, VA is one of those rare talents. Jax does not have your typical “dope dealing to bottle popping” story. Born into a single parent home, at an early age, Jax had to learn what leadership meant. Jax remembers, “when I was a kid pops was in and out handling his, so I had to figure out life on my own and handle mine,” While in grammar school, Jax would find little odd jobs within his community just to stay fresh in the latest Jordan’s. He even found himself writing poetry for dollars. “I was so nice with the pen, the older kids would pay me just to write poems for they’re girlfriends.” By the age of 12, Jax had a real knack for turning his poetic gifts into profit. However, he was now at the age where he noticed that the temptations of evil, would weigh to be a bigger profit than his poetry. He explains, “I would see pops riding in big cars, always fresh, with jewelry shining.” Jax’s father was a well known street hustler in the Tidewater area of VA. “Being so close to that life, it was becoming hard to decide whether to make a quick buck or perfect my craft.” As Jax matured he understood that his father’s life was not for him but there was something father and son did have in common. He began to explain, “Pops would have me listening o all types of music whether it was Guns & Roses or Run DMC.” They’re love for music is what sparked Jax‘s interest in a music career. Around Jax‘s adolescent years, he received some mentoring from a friend of the family, Allen McLeod a.k.a Champain Era. Champain Era took Jax under his wings and taught him the basics of hip-hop and the foundations of making music. Soon after, Jax became a member of, “Diamond District”, a Virginia based rap group in which Champain Era was also a member. While being a part of this group Jax was able to learn more about himself and developed his own unique rapping style, which is currently, heard in his music today. Jax expresses, “I am an eclectic artist and have worked with many genres of music from reggae to rock and I’ve even written and composed R&B songs. I do not want to limit myself within any particular style, I want to explore as much music as possible using hip hop as my vehicle.” Towards Jax’s high school years, Diamond District, like most groups went their separate ways; this was a defining moment for Jax. Jax decided to become a solo artist and ventured off to New York City in order to pursue his music career. Jax is currently working on material for his debut album and is expected to release his single “Wing Clap” in April 2008. With Jax’s management team, Rush Hour Entertainment, it is expected that this partnership will make a huge contribution to hip-hop and the music industry as a whole.
