Every once in a while, a rapper emerges on the scene with the power to innovate and become somewhat, if not fully memorable. Take Marion, Indiana native Jazzie Lee for example. Jazzie Lee, conjured her stage name in homage to late Martial Arts actor Bruce Lee. She injects an extra dose of soul and filler, which is heavily missed in today's Hip-Hop world. While poetry was her first love, it was also her initial introduction into Hip-Hop music. After watching documentaries on the late rapper 2pac Shakur (whom she admires), Jazzie had made up her mind that rapping was something that she wanted to do. At the age of 14, while her peers were busy getting involved with boys and anxious of starting high school; Jazzie Lee would spend her time picking up almost any magazine that involved the art of rap music. Fascinated by the 'rags to riches' stories and the impact that Hip-Hop artists had on music and in the world; she decided to begin her journey into rap stardom. Not being able to afford the top notch recording studios that artists use for their music, she took the family computer and a desktop microphone and set in on her work. Jazzie Lee rhymes with a twist of mellowed speed and finesse, weaving stories of her own personal encounters or stories from her peers into her lyrics. She's taken note from some of the greatest emcees of all times (affectionately naming Notorious BIG, 2pac, Naughty By Nature, Bone Thugs N Harmony and Eazy E as her biggest musical influences). Taking the phrase "be a leader not a follower" to heart, Jazzie has differentiated her style of music giving it the title; 'Urban-Neo-Hip-Hop-Soul.' This style of music, she says, is a combination of her aggressive vocals over a blended R&B/Hip-Hop beat. In finished product, these combinations make pure speaker banging silk. She's definitely a young artist, that you need to a faithful eye on, because she has definitely constructed a lane all her own and claims it with pride. In the words of the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes 'A New Star Is Born.'
