"The only person more wealthy than a rich man, is a dreamer" -Unknown Hello! My name is Je'an Pierre Johnson but some of you NOW know me as Je'an P. I am currently a student at Ohio University majoring in Creative Writing. True Hip Hop is what I love and promote through my music which I hope you will consider to be "some of the best/true hip hop" that you have heard in a while. I was born and raised in Canton, OH (330 YAY YAY!) to Sherrie Monroe and Je'an P Sr lol. My mother was a teen when she had me but always taught me the true meaning of life while being raised in the rough Southeast Side projects in Highland Park. Unfortunately at the age of six my father was killed and a victim to street violence. Then and there at a young age I became interested in poetry which later turned into a passion for Hip Hop after watching my uncle and mother perform in there local group Hall of Fame Players. My mother encouraged me to express myself through rap and in 8th grade I gave my first performance to my classmates at Lehman Middle School. The response that I received caused me to realize that hip hop was my purpose and talent. The first rap album that influenced me and one which my mother bought me was Kanye West's "College Dropout." This album changed life and I began to make my rhymes more realistic and not what I was exposed to on TV.My influences are De La Soul, Public Enemy, Common, and anything that promotes REAL HIP HOP. In 2006, my mother passed away of heptocellular cancer and it was a rough road continuing to take care of me and my sister. We moved in with my grandmother Helen Monroe and I sort of gave up on rapping. Shortly after this tough period, me and longtime friend Eris Wisdom formed Sound Boy Music. Our first performance was at a local talent show as he performed his remake to Jay-z's "Roc Boys" entitled "Sound Boys". That night was also my first performance in almost two years which was a freestyle entitled "Who Am I?" which was a poem explaining to the world my meaning as a person and a black male in society. After this we continued to write music but never got the opportunity to record until attending college. Shortly after graduating from McKinley Senior High School, i was accepted to OU (Go Bobcats!) and received the King/Chaves/Parks Award for academic success. While at OU I had the pleasure of meeting best friend and executive producer of my album, Christopher Summers. THOUGHT PROCESS is an album that expresses my thoughts and me putting them into a form of rhyme into a new form of emceeing I call "Spoken Hop". The album features special guests Germon Hill, Chrishon White, Natalie Chapman, Scorch, and James Anderson. Through this album I hope you feel the true meaning and values of hip hop through a different perspective and state of mind that is not the normal form of lyricism. "Tall and articulate, DJ iShine is the clean-cut kid that can tuck his T-shirt into his jeans while holding the heavy hip-hop confidence of Kanye as he mixes beats."- K.Kettering of Ohio University's "The Post" Born Chris I. Summers, DJ iShine has grown up loving music ever since he had the ability to hear. His Mother being of Carribean Residency brought him influence via international music (reggae, dancehall, soca) and his Father coming from New York had an interest in collecting Motown and Jazz records with his uncles. Summers and his brother attended a small private elementary school in which they were supposed to play an instrument in the school band. Summers played the trumpet throughout elementary and high school. In high school, Summers began to hone his craft even more as he began to study and research music production and teaching himself piano and bass guitar. In 2006, Summers became a music producer and produced projects in high school and as he currently attends Ohio University, Summers made the transition to a professional music producer with an artistry as an electropop DJ. Working along with fellow peers Je'an P and DC da King of Hearts, and dropping albums such as Suite 11, Summers will continue to show the world his "1Side to Music" It has been a long and continuous road for DJ iShine, but keeping faith and talent first, he plans to do great things with his career. "Martin Luther King showed us that one should not be judged on the content of their skin, but the content of their character, Malcolm fought and Barack won....In music we don't have a genre, we have a sound"- C.Summers Sources redirected from "The Post" and "iMeem"
