Guitarist Jason Takaki and pianist Doug Carter initially formed the band in late 2003. Their intent was to create something that would step out of the boundaries of conventional musical thought. Over the course of the next two years, after playing with many different musicians, the two found Edwin Porras and Chris Schultz, who shared their goals. The group, now called John-a-Dreams, set out to create music that is wholly original, that manages to connect with others by the strength of its honesty. Their influences are many, ranging from Richard Strauss to Weather Report, Pink Floyd to George Clinton, The Beatles to Robert Randolph; anything they've ever heard finds its way into their music and lays the foundation for their own unique sound. In the short period that the quartet has been together, they have enjoyed performing around their hometown of Long Beach and have recently won the battle of the bands at CSULB. Their fanbase is growing steadily and they are constantly composing new material, signs that they plan to be around for a while.
