With the aid of the events staff, they got the room they needed, warmed up, and following a moving intro by Alex, they began playing one of the most up-close-and-personal sets of there young yet experienced careers. They careened in and out of funked up jam sessions and memorable rock riffs to elevate the already amped crowd to an all-new high. At this point I was working the door and watched as previously unaware passer-bys got sucked in and gladly donated 5-bucks to rock out with Jounce and NYCUG!" -NYCUG.COMThe band:Danny Tamberelli, bass/ vocalsMatt DeSteno, guitar/vocalsJoe Ciarallo, drumsJounce formed in the small, suburban town of Wyckoff, NJ, around the turn of the century. There, four childhood friends spent their days jamming in basements, parties and local bars, or wherever people would listen.During their college years, the band lived for some time in a house bordering the Holyoke State Forest in Amherst, MA. They converted an old shed - it was a big shed - to serve as their rehearsal space and traveled extensively, playing hundreds of shows and sharing bills with influences like the Benevento Russo Duo, The Flaming Lips, ulu and the Slip. In December 2004, the band returned home to the New York area where they eventually landed in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. After several years of promoting themselves with only DIY studio and live demo EPs, in April of 2006 Jounce recorded their self-titled debut album at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with keyboardist Adam Gold. Working with longtime friend and producer Marco Centola, the band turned out eight tracks that would then be mixed back in New York by Centola and Grammy nominated engineer Alan Silverman (The Kinks, Cheap Trick, Norah Jones).Released on June 29th, 2006, the album’s opening track, "You Tell Me" garnered 3rd place in the Relix Magazine/Sonicbids Jamoff Competition that fall. In addition the band was selected by a panel of Relix Magazine and Jambands.com staff from a pool of over 500 artists to perform at the Green Apple Music Festival, America’s largest Earth Day festival.Jounce continued their philanthropic efforts with a benefit concert for SavetheRavine.org, a group working to preserve open space in their hometown, raising over $1,000 for the organization’s legal defense fund. The band has toured throughout NY, NJ, CT, VT, MA, ME, PA, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, & TN and appeared at venues including The Highline Ballroom, The Blender Theater at Gramercy, The Knitting Factory, The Mercury Lounge & BB Kings (New York), The World Cafe Live & North Star (Philadelphia), Harper’s Ferry (Boston), Nectar’s (Burlington), The Brandyhouse (Atlanta) and The Pour House (Charleston).Festival appearances include the 2007 & ’08 Green Apple Music Festival, the 2003 Berkshire Mountain Music Festival (with headliners the Flaming Lips, Medeski Martin & Wood, and STS9), The Great Bamboozle 2004 & 2005 (with headliners the Roots, Medeski Martin & Wood, and moe.) and headlining Hampshire College Halloween in 2004.Additionally Jounce has gigged with acts including the Benevento/Russo Duo, Derek Trucks Band, Brothers Past, The Slip, Antibalas, ulu, Pnuma Trio and Lo Faber of God Street Wine.2008 finds the band continuing to tour and write new music.
