Fresh from ripping apart New York City with their first ever run of U.S. dates and hitting number one on American College radio, Melbourne duo Kathematics have just released their first full-length CD and darkest work to date - 'Divorce Death Departure The Album' out now through Smashed Records. Re-born as a two-piece only a year ago, Kathematics now feature Kath on vocals and guitar and Danny on drums. After acquiring an octave pedal they locked themselves in a rehearsal room where Kath unleashed her life-long demons writing an entire new set of songs in two months, which turned out very different to the band’s previous work. Recorded in just two days, the eleven new songs on ‘Divorce Death Departure The Album’ showcase a darker, grungier and more riff-based style of songwriting from Kath and a more complex drumming style from Danny, reaching new heights musically and emotionally, leaving the old 4/4 pop/punk flavoured Kathematics far behind. "A two-piece grunge pop band of just drums, guitar and girl vocal. Sharp & punky but with sweet pop overtones, this album oozes attitude, fervour and emotion. From Melbourne, Kathematics have evolved from a 3-piece pop/punk outfit to a 2-piece (drums & guitar) with a much grungier sound. Kath (vocals/guitar) delivers an emotion filled vocal which showcases her 'delicate to dangerous' singing style, underpinned by a biting (often single-string) guitar sound. It's all driven along by Danny's powerhouse drumming which seems to add an unexpected musicality to the sound. Highlight track is the 60’s inspired ‘Come Find Me’ where the duo creatively use a biscuit tin as a cowbell!" Rohan Belton, Smashed Records.
