Killeen, hailing from a small Texas town bearing the same name, may soon change how rap fans see the music scene in Central Kentucky. Now residing in Lexington, KY Killeen is currently awaiting the independent release of his full length album Club N Luv. Named after the 18 tracks of club bangers and love melodies all produced by, thats right, Killeen. Born Harold Burns, Killeen started getting into music by making beats as a Freshman at Lexingtons Tates Creek High School. Using a Yamaha keyboard he would try to replicate beats he heard on the radio and did so with some success. In 1999, after a year of practice he began producing original beats for classmates and Lexington rap artists the Bianco Brothers. This collaboration resulted in Killeen getting behind the mic for the first time. Though it would be a few more years before he developed his trademark style that you are familiar with today. After rapping and producing tracks for 3 years Killeen decided to attend college at Kentucky State to study music formally. After one year he decided to leave because the education he was getting was not helping advance his rap production skills. Coincidently a similar path was taken by Killeens biggest influence Kayne West. Upon returning home to Lexington, Killeen scored an internship at a new Hip Hop and R&B studio Inland Recording and Entertainment. This internship rolled over into a job as Inlands full time in-house producer. It was here that Killeen familiarized himself with professional studio equipment and used evenings and downtime to work on his own projects. But as the rap buzz grew in the south the owners of Inland decided to relocate their studio to Atlanta leaving Killeen with no place to record. Distraught and frustrated with his situation, Killeen spent the next year writing songs to beats he had made at Inland and some using a rented keyboard. This would be the framework of Club N Luv. In May of 2005, a friend of Killeens recommended that he call another new studio in Lexington named Digital 859 because he knew the owners were looking for an in-house producer. After recording a few songs there and seeing what he could do, Killeen landed the job producing rap and R&B tracks. Today, Killeen still works at Digital 859 and it was here where Club N Luv was produced and recorded. With a production style often described as a cross between Lil John and Kayne West, combined with quick witted Ludacris flow, a confident T.I. swagger, and a little bit of Ushers sensitivity, Killeen is sure to raise a few eye brows and help put a much needed spot light on the music scene in Kentucky.
