Bridging the gap between hip hop and rock, Killer Kalifornia classifies themselves in the urban rock genre providing audiences with a fusion of both worlds. Their eclectic style got their humble beginnings in sunny Los Angeles where some of the top bands have emerged. The genesis of the band started in 2010 at the prestigious Musician’s Institute in Hollywood when drummer DB and lead rapper Hunnit collaborated on a music project. While in the lab, writing and composing potential songs, they came across their single “Killer Kalifornia” which was a perfect fit for their band’s identification.
Eventually the group completed their lineup with lead singer J Lake who hails from the archipelagos of Stockholm, Sweden and bassist, Los Angeles native Chill months down the line. Crediting a wide range of musical influences such as Eminem, Rage Against the Machine, Tupac, John Mayer, Kiss, & Bon Jovi, there’s no denying where Killer Kalifornia’s inspiration for their edgy, swaged-out style comes from. Donning stylish kicks, skinny jeans, and rocker apparel, as soon as Killer Kalifornia hits the stage their audience gravitates to their energy and lifestyle.
Incredibly in such a short period, Killer Kalifornia has accomplished a great deal and performed in an array of Los Angeles avenues ranging from the Key Club, Dragonfly, The Terrace and headlining at Whiskey A Go-Go. They love to perform, gain new fans and perfect their stage presence. As songwriters and musicians, each individual member has some hand in the writing process while they produce all of music. The versatility of their themes consist of Cali life, women, partying, overcoming obstacles, and rising up in the music industry.
