Behind the bright façade of the picturesque East Carolina University campus and a city vainly trying to break free from its’ down home southern roots and surge forward into a more cosmopolitan tomorrow, there lies a seedy, sinister underbelly that has been brewing some of the most honest and brutal metal music on the East Coast for over two decades now. Greenville, NC’s metal scene has flown under the radar for quite some time while fostering and encouraging nearly 4 generations of blistering metal music. From it’s late 80’s birthing pains with bands like Sex, Love, and Money and Tippergore, to the mid 90’s rise of Unsound, Kuttphatt, 7 Ton Diesel, and Idea, to the post-millennial second coming of bands such as Nervous System Assault, Dasmad, Invictus, Cycle of Violence, Missfit Toys, Prelude to Damnation, When All is Lost, and Each Passing Moment, to the more recent scene stalwarts Acirema, Valient Thorr, The Kickass, Black Sky Radius, The Avenger, and Eyes of Wrath; the ravenous gut of this fair city has consistently belched forth one agonizingly epic metal band after another. Though some have tried to break free of the stranglehold that lies within these city limits, few have made it far or made it long. All that is about to change. Rising from the ashes of relative newcomers to the scene Until the Grave, Greenville's own Kill the Hostage is poised to be the band that finally shakes off the yoke of this town to bring their fire, fury, blood and guts to the masses. The band is comprised of scene veterans Wayne Willis (Nervous System Assault) on bass, Allen Foster (Cycle of Violence, Eyes of Wrath) on lead guitar, and Harry Brewer (Idea) on drums along with fresh blood Brian Kuetemeyer on guitar and Chris Humphrey on vocals. Kill the Hostage combines the sheer intensity and groove of the New Wave of American Metal, the speed and power of classic thrash, the stomach churning bombast of modern metalcore, and the utter brutality of death metal into a sound and style that is uniquely their own as they pay homage to the past while boldly looking toward the future. Imagine Lamb of God and Morbid Angel in a no holds barred cage match with Darkest Hour and Testament and you may begin to get the idea. The band is currently working on new material as they prepare for 2009 to be the year that Greenville finally gets its’ due. There will be no prisoners. There will be no negotiations. There will be no quarter. Kill the Hostage.
