Maybe that is why I love the music of such neo soul artist such as Jill Scott, Lauren Hill, India Arie, DeAngelo, Bilal, and John Legend. My music stand for something; its real, raw, its me.
I started out singing in my fathers’ church. I always picked up music very easily, I played piano by ear years before my mother put me in piano lessons. I ended up quitting piano lessons because it interfered with basketball in which I played through out middle and high school. I always loved to sing but it wasn’t until my senior year in high school where I wrote my first song on the piano. After that, I began to polish my craft and started to find some of the love I had for basketball being shared with that of music. However, I was unable to pursue music. I received a full basketball scholarship to The Ohio State University where I ended up having a very successful career. Even though I know I can make it in the professional world of sports, whether it is in the WNBA or overseas, I feel that music, which was instilled in me early, has been reawakened, and I refuse to let it sleep again.
I am just an average young lady with a dream to make it. All of the songs I’ve made I have produced, wrote, and been the sole singer on the tracks. My family has been my support base, they back me up 100%, and without them I would not be half the woman I am today. They taught me how to have very positive and persistent work ethics and I am thankful to have them with me every step of the way. Yet as much as I admire my family, God is my strength, and has blessed me so abundantly, I would love to share the talent he has given me with the world. I am a very hard worker, if not apparent through all of my basketball honors and accomplishments, then obvious through my life. I’ve graduated college in less than 4 years, I’ve taught myself how to play various instruments, and I’ve excelled in nearly everything attempted. I have been in charge of my life since I could speak, and every since then I have spoken what’s in my heart, I just let my music do the talking
