Powerhouse vocals, catchy pop-rock songwriting, and an attitude to boot! Vancouver based Kim Wright is getting ready for the release of her second full length CD. Armed with only an acoustic guitar, Kim began making demo tapes and playing gigs in the late nineties in her hometown of Winnipeg. After playing live shows both solo and in rock bands for several years, she released her debut CD “Everyday That Scares You” in 2004. The emotionally charged ten song disc varies from the powerfully hard-hitting “Girlfriend”, to the sultry sweet “Hello Angel”; the sullen intensity of “How Do I Feel”, to the purely stuck-in-your-head unforgettable “Tired of Floating”. Elements of loss and abandonment are intertwined throughout the disc with the theme of letting go, moving on, and not being afraid. Unedited, unabashed, and refusing to keep anything to herself, Kim confesses making this record was by far the scariest thing she has ever done, saying, “…it’s very much like allowing the world to read my private diary.” Previous to her first release, Kim contributed a song to “Somebody Needs a Timeout”, a collection of Canadian artists performing children’s songs for charity. She has showcased at NXNE in Toronto, Prairie Music Week in Winnipeg, and in 2004 was handpicked by Canadian rock group Finger Eleven to open their Winnipeg stop on their Summer of Judgement Tour. ChartAttack called her “one of Winnipeg’s best kept secrets”. Since her move to Vancouver in 2007, Kim has been writing and recording new, soon to be released material (currently anticipating an early 2010 release). “My songwriting has definitely evolved past the ‘angry young woman’ stage,” she says. “I still get inspiration from the same places that I used to, but my perspective has changed.” Two tracks from the new recording were turned into music videos in their demo stage and posted on YouTube, “Grapevine Politics” in 2007, and “You and I” in 2009. Kim's new self-produced album Random Access Memories is scheduled for a spring 2010 release. www.kimwright.ca
