In 2007 Kina entered the Domino’s crash the Super Bowl competition with her song ‘Message to your heart’. Amazingly Kina won the competition which resulted in her homemade video being played to 97 million super bowl viewers, instantly landing Kina with a recording contract with major label, Interscope records. However after winning the contract Kina who is of Japense and mixed European heritage, soon realised her ‘exclusive’ record came at a price of her sacrificing her artistic control, consequently Kina left Interscope before she ever release any material. Instead maximizing on her extremely large internet following Kina has become the perfect example of the 21st Century musician, who has their guitar in one hand, and laptop in the other. To date Kina has amassed a staggering 520,000+ subscribers on YouTube, another 217,000 on Facebook and 107,000 on Twitter. Kina Grannis, who’s debut single ‘Valentine’ features on the second episode of US hit show Gossip Girl will release her long awaited single ‘In Your Arms’ in the US where her following is rapidly growing before turning her attention to the UK in September 2012 and also embark on a highly anticipated Coffee Shop Tour. In a generation of DIY musicians Kina music is more organic than man-made.
