King Air formed in late 2007 when guitarist Bill Baldwin and vocalist Joy Baldwin reconnected with former Splinter bandmate Mike Sherrill. Splinter was a late-90’s Austin mainstay featured on numerous compilations, including K-NACK’s Homegroan series. To complete the rhythm section, Mike recruited drummer Sean McGee. King Air formed in late 2007 when guitarist Bill Baldwin and vocalist Joy Baldwin reconnected with former Splinter bandmate Mike Sherrill. Splinter was a late-90’s Austin mainstay featured on numerous compilations, including K-NACK’s Homegroan series. To complete the rhythm section, Mike recruited drummer Sean McGee. Mike and Sean had played together in Cling, who appeared at Lilith Fair, and in local sensations 7% Solution, a band that received national attention from publications such as Rolling Stone and Spin. Although all four members had been active on the local music scene in the 90s, each had fallen away from music to pursue careers and build families. When Bill and Joy finally returned to songwriting, they discovered they had a clearer sense of purpose, as well as a backlog of musical ideas and inspiration to draw on. The result is a diverse but cohesive group of well-crafted pop songs that prove you can celebrate a variety of influences and still be singular in your vision.
