If 2009 is any indication of things to come, 2010 is going to be a pretty good year for Kyle Swartzwelder. After spending most of 2009 touring from Georgia to New Hampshire to support his late 2008 self-titled release, Kyle is preparing to record his follow-up album for 13:13 Records. Along the way, he gained new fans with his sweet country-folk songs and dynamic live performances, and shared the stage with Jake Armerding , Craig Bickhardt, John Flynn, David Mead, and Peter Tork, as well as local favorites Ben Arnold, J.D. Malone, Laura Shay, Chris Bruni, and Nancy Micciulla. Now a veteran of the folk scene, Kyle started out in the coffee shops around the University of Delaware with his father’s 1968 Ovation Balladeer. After several years of cultivating his songwriting, Kyle moved on to the folk clubs and coffeehouses in the Philadelphia region and quickly developed a reputation as a top-notch songwriter and performer. 2008 saw the release of Kyle’s first release, an eight song, self-titled record, on 13:13 Records. The record was greeted by rave reviews, being called “perfect” and a “polished gem,” and was even nominated as Best Album of the Year by 93.7 WSTW. WSTW also named Kyle the Best Male Artist of 2008. In addition to playing as many live shows as possible, Kyle keeps busy with several other musical endeavors. For the past three years, Kyle has hosted the popular and extremely well attended open mic at Burlap and Bean in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. He is also Burlap and Bean’s in-house sound engineer. Kyle also runs a small studio in his Wilmington home where he has mastered records for Philadelphia artists such as The Spinning Leaves, Hezekiah Jones, and Wissahickon Chicken Shack’s Brad Hinton. Kyle’s music is recommended if you like – Lyle Lovett, Ryan Adams, Jeffrey Foucault, Josh Ritter, early Jackson Browne, early Neil Young.
