Salt Lake City, UT
La Farsa is a gaggle of multi-instrumentalist rabble-rousers who, since they were old enough to wield sticks or picks or press buttons or keys, have seen the world entire as a giant toybox, brimming with musical potential. Growing and growing in Salt Lake City as one of the first and only bands to not only have more than one, multi-instrumentalist female musician, but also to represent the gay community that so fervently, and proudly thrives in our little mormon home town.
La Farsa has existed in many incarnations in the City of Salt, and her current lineup is nothing short of extraordinary. Featuring Erin Haley, singer, songwriter and soulbearer; Flora Bernard, blueslady crooner and whacker of mad drums; Valerie Spafadora Gleason, string-stroker and violin-wielding angel, Ryan Cron, funkswayer of Elvisian dimensions; and Maxwell Scheller, percussionisto, axman, and fashion director; La Farsa is a genre-blurring, stage-shaking, elegant riot of sound. With band members playing the most literal game of musical chairs, swapping instruments and lead vocal lines every other song to keep the lineup lively and integrating polyrhythms, gang vocals, and three- to five-part vocal harmonies, La Farsa is a visual and audial gumbo of never-boring flavors.
Integrating influence from all musical walks, La Farsa is folk, gypsy, cabaret, rock, funk, blues, and pure, unbridled soul. Catering to diverse audiences and essentially anyone who knows and appreciates a good time with good tunes, La Farsa is guaranteed to offer something for everyone.
