LA SUITE BIZARRE: SEX, FUNK & ELECTROBIZARRE Way back in another century, left behind on the garbage site in our memory, in what was then called the eighties, a German group called KRAFTWERK emerged. Many of us (especially the older reader) remember their hit “Autobahn”: a repetitive refrain saying “Bahn bahn auf die autobahn” on a smooth electric layer of synthesizers and sounds of cars passing by, all of it attributed to a trance-like hypnotizing sound. Around the same time in good old England THOMAS DOLBY had a dancehall hit with “she blinded me science”, music, which was to be filed under DISCO, but that sounded like pop from a century still ahead of us. All around Europe groups emerged that sounded more electronic, yes, even industrial, and less like pop music. Electronic pop music was born, at the end of the 20th century, but digital pop music (the use of computers for composing songs) was still to come. As the new age grew closer, disco music transformed into house, techno and the like; dance music became more and more instrumental, but still some “rebels” like PRINCE and BECK refused to give in and kept on producing danceable music with poppy lyrics. Now we are in the 21st century and here comes a band called LA SUITE BIZARRE and although it is true that their inspiration has to be found in the last century, their music surely sounds like the 21st century. With LA SUITE BIZARRE we can glimpse the intention to melt the slightly impersonal electronic music with a warm voice, a feeling, emotion. Hence, it is no surprise to us that this new project has a different approach as to the instruments being used: the drums have given away to hand percussion played by a Dutch percussionist; the harmony is enriched by a French saxophone player; a deejay has enforced the band and as a result the music has become more funky - therefore the more appropriate term ELECTROFUNK. The lyrics are simple: their goal is, like in the best TALKING HEADS tradition, to support the music, not the other way around. Israel stated that the main theme in the lyrics is sexuality, in the “read-between-the-lines way”, as in the black American Funk music of the seventies. So here we are with BIZARRE music, music that seemed to be recorded in a 200 euro per night SUITE of a fancy hotel in the early morning hours after one of these famous booze & sex infested parties…Are you ready for Sex, Funk and Electrobizarre by LA SUITE BIZARRE? La Suite Bizarre is the result, and has its members conclude that the experience of the independent musical panorama can only be translated into a managed personal evolution. After having contact with famous bands of the moment and touring all over the nation, their first compositions appear related to fundamental styles on pop, electronic and psychedelic. With their first recording they appear in musical magazines around the country and they are selected for several musical showcases. During this time La Suite Bizarre becomes stronger and full of energy while solidifying its own sound. LA SUITE BIZARRE records their first album “a million universes”; the first single is chosen as the best independent song by MTV/Astor Records. The same year LA SUITE BIZARRE went into the studio to record “the harmony of the spheres”, 10 new tracks full of experimentation... Songs like “automatic” were included on the first compilation of GPS Music. ‘Philips’ acquires other songs - “the chemical generation” and “your lysergic world”, for use in promotion. LA SUITE BIZARRE is selected to showcase at different national competitions like: Moncloa Music Festival, Festival de Benicassim, etc. With this material, the music of the band goes from strength to strength to The United States, Germany, Great Britain, Mexico, Argentine, and beyond. “Little experiments” is recorded one year later. With an evident change of direction... With this new sound the emotional controversy and an obscene vision in a particular musical universe appears. It’s a solid work and completely different. They tour their new album nationally, promoted by SGAE and their first video clip “your odyssey is my sperm”, produced by Dejavu productions is aired. “Little experiments”, as its name is indicated, takes the band into a new period with stunning songs and new sounds. Prestigious magazines like Ruta 66, Mondo Sonoro, Radio 3, etc. interviewed them and, this new sound is immitated by producers like Mark Katier and Hugo Spinelli in their future works… “Inharmonique” is their latest album and a mini tour, where music and visual art are combined for the first time, is scheduled for later in the year. The audiovisual experience is reflected on the live recording, a work made by Martin Ellerbeck. With this new album, LA SUITE BIZARRE exposes an emotional experience to create a relationship with new sounds and literary expression. The band is currently in Manchester (UK) recording this new album at AD studios. The music of La Suite Bizarre is a concentration of all the greatest musical elements captured by one group of multi dimensional and talented performers.
