(For Calendar: see below) As a singer/songwriter, Leah-Carla Gordone has received critical acclaim for her performance intensity and compelling stage presence. Now she is the author of a new book The Motorgirl Memoirs: Adventures in Mania and Semi-Normality, an autobiography 20 years in the writing (Available NOW at Amazon.com and listed with Baker & Taylor). The 12-string guitarist has also received [and continues to receive] noteworthy praise for all three of her full-length CDs: Butterfly Child, Dancing on the Dragon, and Phoenix from the Ashes: Rise. Her music has been described as "rockin'," "eclectic folk/rock," "refreshing," "kick-***," "breathtaking," "hot pop!" "cross-over," "uplifting," "multi-genre," "her own lane," "nothing like it," "an oasis," "knee-buckling," "universal," "ethereal," "unique adult contemporary," and "jammin'." ******************************************************************************* "Gordone is an excellent, young singer...A modern day Carly Simon burst forth [during her live performance in Los Angeles] with a touch a Joni Mitchell thrown in for good measure!" - Music Connection Magazine "Take a deep breath. Light a candle. Turn out the lights. Pour a glass of your favorite wine. Put your headphones on. Listen...Phoenix from the Ashes: Rise is a stunning album from Leah-Carla Gordone...Lyrically, she is hauntingly beautiful and tellingly effective...and vocally she emerges as an ethereal cross between Alanis Morissette and Rickie Lee Jones but with a uniqueness that separates her from the two...'Naked' is one of 2009's most knee-buckling beautiful songs!" - Michael Canter, Jive Talkin' (Oct 2009) "Wow! Gordone is like a cross between Buffy Saint Marie and Nina Simone. This is some great music, the kind you just hear every once in a great while: a unique voice singing thoughtful, inspiring lyrics. She plays guitar well too! Oh man, she just blows me away." - Nightflying Entertainment Guide (Oct 2009) ******************************************************************************** Gordone's memoir depicts her as a manic-depressive in quest of her soul mate and recognition as an actress/musician, devastated at times—but never broken—by her multiple encounters with unhealthy men… ******************************************************************************** "Ms. Gordone has written an incredible odyssey...Anyone who lives with or has to deal with bipolar issues needs to read this book, not once but three or four times...Read it and find out how the creative process can be either the salvation of the soul or the rack on which we place our idols." - Peter Brown, Literary Agent, Amazon.com Review “From hazardous, fragmented [mis]adventures, Leah-Carla Gordone pulls a shining crystal ball of understanding—reconciling the intensely creative and bipolar parts of herself...a triumphant story of feminine resilience and beauty.” – Lo Galluccio, Author of Hot Rain, Sarasota VII, and Terrible Baubles “THE MOTORGIRL MEMOIRS is magical! An eloquently written, honest, and compelling masterpiece with rich and colorful insights into Manic-Depression that will bring you to tears. Leah-Carla Gordone takes you on a funky, urban adventure with her emotionally riveting character, Em-Gee, who has the soul of a rock star, a super hero, and a pixie all rolled into one brave and awesome Bipolar babe!” – Taj Bell, Author and Illustrator of children’s book The Little Night Fairy ******************************************************************************** Unintentionally timed with the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, a hearty chunk of the book includes the author’s own experience living in the town of Woodstock (located in Upstate New York) and attending Woodstock ’94 and Woodstock ’99 (both were massive '69 commemorative music festivals). Gordone seems to have been everywhere at the right time and with so many music fans and countless, mind-blowing music reviews from reputable sources, such as PETER YARROW (of PETER, PAUL AND MARY) who hails her as “A POWERFUL, AUTHENTIC SINGER...LEADING THE CUTTING EDGE OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM…FOR THOSE WHO APPRECIATE MUSIC AS SUBSTANCE, RATHER THAN STYLE, AND HOPE FOR IT TO 'LIGHT THE WAY'," and even THE WOODSTOCK TIMES, that lauded “SHE IS A ROSE CREEPING THROUGH FISSURES IN GRAFFITI-STAINED CONCRETE…A QUALITY TO HER SINGING SHARED BY THE GREATEST FEMALE SINGERS…EDITH PIAF, JONI MITCHELL AND BILLIE HOLIDAY,” Leah-Carla Gordone is well on her way to becoming a household name! Gordone is currently traveling around the country with her one-woman show; The Motorgirl Memoirs: 12 Readings and a 12 Stringed-Guitar Tour is a cool concoction: Leah-Carla performing songs from all three of her CDs and [in between songs] reading from her new book. Her voice has been described as "sultry," "genuine," "gut-wrenching," "song bird," "angelic," "husky," "raw," "powerful," "unique" and "incomparable." Her motto is, "Breaking new ground with a new sound for a new era." Born and raised in the heart of New York City, Leah-Carla is the daughter of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Charles Gordone. She has toured the country and parts of Europe and has opened for Norah Jones and The Indigo Girls. She is a transplant, currently residing in Columbus, Ohio where summer 2009 made her sixth year performing at Columbus, Ohio's well-known annual COMFEST - a 3-day/7-stage outdoor music festival - the only community volunteer-run festival in the country. She's been selected to play at Boston's renowned annual music conference NEMO. In January of 2007, she accepted the honor of being asked to sing the opening national anthem solo a cappella at the North American Fencing Cup Championship at Columbus' Convention Center. She was invited to perform at Eyes Wide Open: The Human Costs of the Iraq War; a display of the boots of fallen soldiers and the shoes of Iraqi civilians who have died since the war in Iraq was started, set up on the lawn of the Statehouse in 2006. Gordone has performed at BORDERS BOOKSTORES (NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle). She's sung with Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul and Mary) at The Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and has appeared on TV Morning Shows such as FOX 28 Wake Up (Southbend/Elkart, Indiana) and CBS Channel 2 - The Desert's News Station (California), as well as on HBO's REAL SEX: the documentary TV series, where she was featured modeling sexy latex clothing for the famous fashion designer The Baroness (who has clothed music icons like Janet Jackson!) Gordone began singing, acting, and dancing professionally as a child and as a teenager, attained admission to the prestigious Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Performing and the Arts (NYC) for dramatic study. As a Theater Arts major at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz, she starred in the musical "Cabaret." Her other acting credits include Agnes in Agnes of God and Mustardseed in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park: A Midsummer Night's Dream. She was one of the original performing members of "Indiegrrl," toured through seven states with them and has been a featured artist on their website. Gordone is also a painter, with a collection of enough "guitars with wings" on canvases of varying sizes to fill an art gallery…We think this is all something to shout about!
