Something fresh and exclusive is what the industry needs. Local Chicago hip hop artist J-Dub is just that. With the hip hop music fan base rapidly migrating towards dance and the one hit wonder sound, the game is in dyer need of genuine hip hop artist’s and producers. The radio air waves are fluttered with industrial rap and gangster music but artist J-Dub feels as if the listeners need another option. J-Dub, (born Jamal Antwan Murray), has a different sound all together. A self taught musician and producer, he has created phenomenal beats in his short nine months of producing and has also created raps with mind boggling lyrics. He does not advocate disrespect towards women and has his own style and is purely hip hop. 18 years old when he start producing, he had already had a passion for music. He played the guitar since the age of 14 and at the age of 16, was in a small rock band named forever at his high school Michele Clark. After the group disbanded, he went on to start his own band, “Over Drive”, as a lead guitarist and singer but never got the group off the ground. His loved for music pushed him towards the hip hop industry where he started writing raps and listening to artist such as Jay Z and Kanye West. After enduring a rough year in 2006, in March of 2007, began recording his raps using an old Mackie rx-7 analog recorder and a ten dollar mic from Target. He soon after started recording beats off of his 100 dollar Casio keyboard. The scratchy, chalky sound eventually evolved into a pure professional sound. His knowledge of music production eventually grew and his lyrics began to change into those of an intellectual, profound artist. J-Dub started his own label named BFI, short for Bread Factory Inc and began to let other artist record with him for free. His reason for doing this is because he loved production with a passion and also just wanted to get the experience and it paid off. J-Dub now has the sound of a professional studio coming out of his bedroom. He is now on the path of presenting his music to the world. With rappers such as Lupe Fiasco, Jay Z, Kanye West and producers such as Timberland, Scott Storch, and Dr. Dre, he has all the motivation he needs. Something fresh and exclusive, that’s what J-Dub’s about and he’s a legend in the making!
