Signed to Destiny Entertainment as its first male artist in 1998, Leonard Dozier has combined the sounds of the likes of Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass and Will Downing and infused his own stylings. Signed to Destiny Entertainment as its first male artist in 1998, Leonard Dozier has combined the sounds of the likes of Luther Vandross, Teddy Pendergrass and Will Downing and infused his own stylings. After the label folded, he quickly signed with indie label Starlight Music, headed by Paul Jerkins, the uncle of mega producer Rodney Jerkins. He would later work with engineer Andrew Manzano whose credits include N’Sync, Brian Mcknight, Michael Lionel Richie, Dave Hollister, and Roy Ayers. This led to his work with Grammy-nominee George Mesterhazy in 2004 writing and producing the beautiful “When I Say“ for which Blue Note executive Tom Evered commented was a phenomenal song by a truly gifted voice. He was also selected by Tina Schafer’s Songwriter’s Circle and performed at the Bitter End in New York on the bill with Grammy-winner Gordon Chambers. He has been an ASCAP writer since 1998.  With “I Love You,” the new single from his forthcoming CD “Vitamin L,” (March 16th) Dozier treats urban adult contemporary listeners to a an infectious groove that is already beginning to gain traction on several stations. The single is available January 16th when the single becomes available through Itunes, Rhapsody, and Amazon. The song is already set for rotation on several radio and internet radio stations nationwide. Also an actor, he recently starred as two prominent Philadelphians: Richard Allen in the landmark documentary “Apostle of Freedom” and the wealthiest African-American in the country circa 1900, Colonel John Mckee, in a “A Gift from John Mckee.” He also has a recurring role as Reverend Johnson in the new television series “Cream” which debits nationally in October 2010. In 2012, he will star in a stage musical about the life of the legendary Luther Vandross, written by him, for which he will play Luther. His resume also includes a recent starring role in the world-premiere production of “Heartbreaker” in Waterford, Connecticut as well as a starring role in the world-premiere musical “Battlecry,” directed by Tony-nominee and Broadway’s Gabe Barre with music composed by Hollywood’s Paul Bogaev. Additionally, Leonard was the voice behind American Idol Ruben Studdard’s national television promo which was seen on BET, LIFETIME, and MTV. Also, his audiobook narration of Dr. Creflo Dollar’s “8 Steps to Create the Life You Want” is in major bookstores nationwide.
