Lidie Bz a.k.a Lido, is a rapper and gifted writer from Oakland, California. His distinctive style, clever lyrics, and impeccable flow are what separate him from other artists.
Lido knew at an early age that he wanted to make music. He had a rough time in his youth and music was his outlet; he was constantly writing and freestyling, whether at home or in school. As a seven-year-old watching Yo’ MTV Raps, he knew for sure he wanted to be a rapper. “It was like eating candy for the first time,” he says. “It excited me, how rappers put their words together. As I got older, I began to relate to the issues, and content in their music. It was like they took parts of my life and put it in their songs.”
In 2000, Lido’s journey to make his dream a reality began. He met and began working with producer Steven King; it was a perfect collaboration. Four years later, at the Demo Fast Break convention in Las Vegas, he was offered an A&R deal with Capital Records.
Soon after this career breakthrough, a family tragedy struck: Lido’s younger brother Romell “Georgie” Mostella was killed at the age of 20. The bond Lido had with his brother was indescribable and his death was extremely difficult for Lido.
By 2005, Lido was back to working on music and appearing on three mixtapes. First, the Young Breatha Gang’s Yung n D'Restless Mixtape vol. 1, followed by Tha Advocate’s Digital Dynasty Mixtape vol. 2, and then Young Breatha Gang’s 1100 Tha Set Mixtape in 2006. In 2007, Lido won first place in the “Spit Sumthin” contest on Baymusic.com. This gave him an opportunity to work with DJ Fresh and record a track with Bay Area artists Mistah Fab, J-Stalin, and Beeda Weeda.
Lido is fully committed to the art he loves. He wants to create songs that people can dance and vibe to. He understands the impact music can have. “I love how people react to my songs,” he says. “Can you imagine how you can move a whole crowd of people with your music? It’s crazy!” Lido’s ultimate goal is to, “Do something no one has ever done, like become the Michael Jackson of rap.”
