LIL DEE, born DeShawn Henley was raised on the east side of Detroit, MI in the mid 1980’s. As the youngest of four children, he has always managed to be the center of attention. His first love has always been music, he wrote a bulk of songs with no beat between the ages of 9-15. This gave LIL DEE the ability to attack beats when they did become available… It was not until the end of high school that LIL DEE recorded his first song and decided to pursue his rap career. School became his secondary plan and at that point LIL DEE fully emerged.
Although LIL DEE continuously radiates cheerfulness, he is not a stranger to struggle. From living in shelters, watching his mom struggle, and dealing with his dad’s death in 2005, he has always managed to turn tragedy into triumph. As a result of all the hard times, he learned to appreciate life even more. LIL DEE grew to be a talented young man who possessed lots of potential.
LIL DEE’s rap inspiration is Tupac “2pac” Shakur. As a true rap entrepreneur and trend setter, he hopes to have the same positive influence on the world. Witnessing 2pac’s success has shown LIL DEE that it is possible to turn nothing into something amazing. There is nothing he craves more than to touch the world through his lyrics. His prime motivation comes from the strength and faith of his mother. She has taught him to stay focused and put his trust in the lord.
The rapper lifestyle is desired by many young men, but LIL DEE has gone beyond his means to make it a reality. He has been known to work at break neck speed writing songs, writing at least 12 songs in just one week, and recording all while performing at least four times a week. LIL DEE asserts that “when it comes to the performing side of rapping, I love it! I am attacking my goal full throttle; I will let nothing interfere with my success.” He has achieved his goals by being diligent and staying true to himself. From family to street life, LIL DEE’s words have captured almost every aspect of American life; they are unprecedented. His lyrics are crafted into brilliant stories similar to a distinguished novelist. He appeals to a wide genre of people due to his relatable approach. LIL DEE has already touched so many through his lyrics and charm and has the talent to affect many more. LIL DEE is just warming up… and is ready to takeover the world at full blast. He is on his way to the top.
