About Martha Berner Music
Chicago, IL
“…think Natalie Merchant with fewer adult contemporary leanings or Aimee Mann on a folkier trip. Berner’s voice can thicken and thin like Joni Mitchell’s and it’s unmistakably her greatest asset" - Magnet
Martha Berner stands out amongst the throngs of new, budding musicians. Armed with a genuine voice and songs of depth and devotion, Martha blends acoustic folk with the energetic passion of rock ‘n’ roll.
Martha Berner created quite a buzz with her debut album ‘…this side of yesterday’, released on Machine Records in 2005, garnered a wealth of press accolades both nationally and abroad, including features in high-profile publications, such as Magnet, Performing Songwriter, Chicago Tribune, HearSay and Out Magazine and has also performed live on Fox, CBS and NBC television news shows.
In March 2006 ‘…this side of yesterday.’ reached #2 on XM satellite radio’s popular Café show. Not only has her music been played on hundreds of radio stations nationwide, but she’s also been receiving heavy airplay on radio stations in Japan, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Israel, along with many other countries.
In addition, Martha’s song “A Town Called Happiness” is also featured along with songs from Neko Case, Joseph Aurther, The New Pornographers, Michelle Shocked and others on a compilation CD entitled The Voices and Faces Project, which benefits survivors of sexual abuse. “A Town Called Happiness” also appeared recently on an exclusive CD sampler compiled by Chicago’s I-GO Car Sharing along side Wilco, Studs Terkel and Neko Case.
