You gotta do a lot of roaming to know where you want to be, especially if where you want to be is everywhere at once. Cuban American and Miami native Jesus Martinez has been roaming the music world for years, doing time in hard core bands and experimenting with synths as a teenager and more recently as founder and member of electronic rock band Zenen (1999-2006) and shoegazers Desire Lines (07-08). Now he is striking out on his own and issuing his first solo album, which both indie kids and techno heads will be able to lovingly wrap their arms around and give a wet, sloppy kiss. “This is an album I had been creating in my head for years and this past winter I finally felt it was the right time to make,” Martinez says. “Martinez FX is me going for the passion I have had for techno, electro, minimal techno and all the dance music...music that I love to hear on the dance floor and have been very influenced by over the years.” Martinez FX brings together all of Martinez’s obsessions into one kaleidoscopic dance floor experience. A bilingual dance record, Martinez FX delves deep into the world of effects and synthesis, stirring in influences from electro giants Daft Punk and Underworld, to Detroit techno minimalist Richie Hawtin, to British post-punk gods Joy Division, indie dance crossovers Primal Scream, and shoegaze godfathers My Bloody Valentine. Yes, it’s an album made for the dance floor by a techno and shoegaze lover. Written, produced, and performed by Martinez, the album also synthesizes his love for the techno music scenes in cities as far-flung as Berlin, Barcelona, Paris, London, and his current home of New York. The 10 songs on Martinez FX were mixed by Alap Momin of the highly regarded experimental hip hop band DALEK. The debut album will be available fall 2009.
