"I grew up in church like almost every R&B singer. However, like few, my grandmother is the musician and my grandfather is the pastor." Being the middle child of 3, Mary has seen her shares of ups and downs. "There were times when I had to prove myself to people or I had to 'live up to certain expectations due to my sister's singing history".Trying to establish a name for herself, Mary enlisted into the US Army after graduating high school. "People think I did it as a tribute to my country or because I was sooooooooo patriotic. I'm not gonna down those who have joined for those reasons, but since I was in ROTC in high school, I wanted a challenge. I thought the military was going to provide that for me, but once in I realized what it really wasn't."After her Honorable discharge from the military, Mary started to focuse on what became her passion, music. "I never really thought I could sing when I was coming up because my aunts and sister always sang and they wanted me to sing a certain way. That is until I got to high school." Mary's awards include; High School's Most Talented amongst her senior class, Silver Placement during the Solo/Ensemble Statewide Competition, Most Spirited in JROTC, Future Grammy Award Winner, and special recognition from her Senior Officer in the Military."With the music scene now, I think we need to get back to the heart of music. You know, how it use to be. True singers who sing for the love of music, not just a paycheck or getting rich real quick"
