Melissa Bandura is a Vancouver-based Independent Folk musician and multi-instrumentalist. Having discovered the violin at the age of four, becoming a student of both classical and folk traditions, and subsequently learning guitar, flute, viola, mandolin and banjo, Melissa’s songs are skillfully written and uniquely orchestral. Adding to the instrumentation of her songs, Melissa’s softly powerful, haunting vocals thread their way through her diverse range of flowing melodies, refreshing harmonies, eccentric chord changes and unique rhythmic phrasing. Building on the folk-roots sounds and ideas established with her previous band, Lily Come Down, Melissa crosses into slightly darker territory with the songs that will grace her upcoming album, Dark Dreams. Already touring some of the work that will appear on Dark Dreams, Melissa has performed relentlessly at festivals throughout British Columbia including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Vancouver Children’s Festival, and New Music West. This past June she organized her first cross - Canada tour with fellow songstress Elaine Ryan. A collaborator at heart, Melissa has also worked closely with Shane Koyczan, CR Avery, T. Nile, Carolina Loveless, Kent McAlister and the Colorifics. Additionally, she scored the award-winning film Let No One Put Asunder and the world-touring dance film Drive, as well as songwriting for The Underground Circus and multiple Vancouver and Seattle dance performances. She is now working with artist and producer, Corwin Fox, who has collaborated with Craig Werth, Shane Philip, Wax Mannequin, Morlove, Miss Emily Brown, Raghu Lokanathan, Yael Wand, Sara Noni-Metzner, members of Arcade Fire, Fred Penner, Mr Something Something, Alex Cuba, Kim Barlow, Daniel Lapp, Linda McCrae, Obijou and more. Together they will craft an album that will place Melissa’s sound alongside fellow Orchestral and Indie Folk artists like Dan Mangan, the Great Lake Swimmers, Basia Bulat, and Sufjan Stevens. Melissa Bandura's melodic sound flows over you like a calm breeze, making you feel warm and fuzzy. Melissa's sound is a soothing combination of her sultry voice and warm melodic undertones that is well beyond her years. Byron James, On Air Announcer 93.7 JRfm; Owner, Echo One Productions Inc.
