Northern California’s premiere groove-funk-bluegrass-jazz-psychedelic-rock band. Formed in 1996, Mind(x) is a 5-piece fusion band from Sacramento, CA. Blending styles from across the spectrum of music, while obliterating genre walls, Mind(x) confidently charts new territories in live music. A typical Mind(x) set will include, afro-celtic, caribbean, southern rock, calypso, zydeco, an everchanging array of latin styles, and space, often weaving 2 or more styles into a single piece. Mind(x) makes powerful music. Their unique, accessible sounds are developed through adventurous improvisation and exploration. This group draws on more than seventy years of live performance experience between them. Continuous performing at venues throughout the western United States provides inspiration for a still expanding range of musical influences. To call the Mind(x) repertoire eclectic is an understatement Mind(x) has played practically every available venue in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona, including legendary spots like the Fillmore, Sweetwater, New George's, The Last Day Saloon, Mystic Theatre, The Catalyst, Humptys/Elevation at North Shore Tahoe and many others. They have also played at many well known festivals including High Sierra, Strawberry and Marin Music Festivals. * Multi-instrumentalist Sean Barfly plays mandolin, fiddle, five string banjo, steel guitar and guitar. Sean has played with countless bluegrass and country bands and has been involved in many regional picking and fiddling competitions. * Rick Zamora, a Northern California guitar phenomenon, was a sideman for Curtis Mayfield for ten years and performed at Woodstock. * Keyboardist Kevin Burton is a touring, recording veteran. From Freddie King, to Little Milton, Albert King, to Frankie Beverly and Maze, Kevin's distinctive style makes for an evening to remember. * Mark Harmon has developed a lyrical style that provides more than just the bottom end. His formal training began on upright bass playing jazz at an early age. When Mark moved from his native state of Virginia to California, he helped form the Strawmen, an all-original music band that continues to periodically write and record. He also joined the 77s, another local Sacramento band that records and tours nationally. Mark continues to write, record and produce original music, gig with other local bands, "loop" with other local bassists and perform session work. * Hailing from Boston, MA, drummer Peter Philis is at home on both coasts. Whether he’s jammin’ with friends, or working with new artists for the first time, Peter's been laying it down for more than 25 years. Some favorite shows include the 1985 drum corps world championships with the Concord Blue Devils, The 2001 Montreal Jazz Festival with Frankie Lee, the 2002 East Coast Roots and Blues Festival in Byron Bay, Australia with Big Jack Johnson, and, the Blue Lamp in Sacramento, CA with Melvin Seals of the Jerry Garcia Band and Mind(x).
