Alias: NATASHA 'T' MARIE Nationality: Mixed (1/2 Trinidadian, 1/2 Caucasian) I First began writing at the age of seven; short stories about fictional characters were the types of things I'd write about then. My first year of high school, (during the Ice Storm of '98), is when I found poetry. Sad love poems were where I started, then gradually, over the years as I grew emotionally, psychologically and spiritually, I began to write more hopeful pieces. Singing was ALWAYS a passion of mine. I discovered rap in my second year of high school, and wrote a few 'rhymes', but didn't like them so much. One day a couple years ago, I began writing a rhyme. I had been hanging around a few friends who'd freestyle on the regular, and they inspired me to actually try it out for real. This time, I liked my material, I liked my flow, and realized that if I could only get better and better from here, I could incorporate that with my singing, and tell my side of the story, to the world in more ways than one- I realized that I love to be aggressive when I rap; even when its positive content. And that's usually because I'm expressing my strength, or my anger and when I sing, it's often the sound of my strength and self-respect. For me, incorporating both in my music, is the best and most therapy I've ever received since the mourning of my father's death in '95. That's why these first few tracks I put out to introduce myself, are about the 'hard knock' era of my life.. then I move up to the enlightening edge, (where I am now). My goal is to inspire listeners who can relate- -To be a voice for those people who may have not been able to find their own words- -And a sort of 'break' away from deception and denial. I'm honest in my music. I make it a point to be. Even in the club bangers, I'll be in character- my own character- This track, 'Everyday', speaks for all those who have ever come from a dark place that is a significant part of who they have become today, and celebrates the freedom of detachment from that negativity.. "...Dark challenges lead me to the gold horizon- YES!!..."
