After growing up in New York, living in Los Angeles, and a lengthy digression to become a clinical Psychologist, Martin Eagle moved to the NC Triangle in 1985. While Martin began playing piano as soon as he could reach the keys - around age two - he is almost completely self-taught. "I was the kind of piano student who would not practice, show up a half hour late for a lesson and leave my music at home. It didn't take too much of that for the teachers to throw me out." Despite this lack of formal training he has played with major artists like Don Ellis and Rahsaan Roland Kirk, shared a rhythm section with Ornette Coleman, and has garnered praise from musicians as diverse as Claus Ogermann, Marian McPartland and Steve Swallow. Martin has performed at such legendary venues as the original Birdland, The Lighthouse and Carnegie Recital Hall. His compositions have been recorded by artists in many genres and his recordings have received national air play and rave reviews.
