A sting from the North With the release of RAID, his debut English album, Dan Louis had set really high expectations for the project after the release of two independent French records for the Quebec market. Raid shows a mature and more focused Mosquito, ready to embark on a bigger mission. After the two independent French records that garnered a lot of airplay, Dan realised that singing in English could open more doors; the remix of ‘Love after all’, by Peakafeller is getting very positive reactions from music people all over the world. So, where does Dan come from…(Quebec City)…Music always was my thing; I composed my first song for my next door girlfriend when I was 7 years old, a love song with rimes and all. Then, I was in good in arts in became a graphic designer. It has been my life, living with this rage of making music all the time inside of me’. RAID is a real turning point: ‘Writing catchy melodies is a real challenge in music today. everything seems to have been done, you always have to come up with a new twist, not too new, not too mainstream if you could dream to have a place in the music’s anthology’ says Dan who was a teacher of Communication/Marketing at Laval University. ‘’I created the Mosquito logo and a good lot of the imagery, I think that I understand the importance of the word business in ‘show business’.’’ As for the message in his songs, Dan is quite oblivious on his positions: ‘’ I’m not politically engaged in my songs, I am more engaged with each individuals, I think that you achieve more with one on one to resolve collective problems.’’ Dan and the band are embarking on promotional tours in Canada, America and looking ahead to Europe.
