M.Y. is an upcoming Latina duet girl group consisting of Puerto Rican native Maria Rivera and Dominican flavor Ysasha Guzman. M.Y. merged their musical talents on September 2008. This hardworking duo is a triple threat team that is using their skills as a canvas to layout their vision. The twosome has spent their first year challenging their voices and learning more about themselves and the music business. “We are writing, rehearsing, planning and performing around the New England States. We are making all the necessary moves to become masters in our craft” explained Ysasha. M.Y. grew up in the multi-cultural borough of Lawrence, MA. They both were members and played sports for the Lawrence Girls Club. Both attended Our Lady of Nazareth Academy, an all girls Catholic High School in Wakefield, MA. This is where their passion for the arts expanded to newer potentials. Being part of the school choir helped them realized that singing was something they truly loved and desired to pursue as a professional career. Maria Rivera first creative steps were encouraged at the early age of 3, when she first sang at her older brother’s kindergarten graduation. Continuing her love for music, she performed with her school choir in Italy in front of Pope John II in 1996. She was part of the Christian Contemporary CD Album “Joy in My Soul” released in 1998 by Our Lady of Nazareth Academy Choir, where she wrote and sang the translated chorus of the song “Bethlehem Morning”. Her biggest triumph was achieved in Sept 4, 2006 when she had the privilege to sing the National Anthem for a RED SOX game at Fenway Park. Furthermore, she hosted her own radio show “Power Reggeaton” as an on-air personality for Power 800 (WNNW) - the number one Spanish radio station in Boston. Ysasha Guzman not your typical bailarina! Dancer, choreographer, singer-what more can you ask for than a true performer. From an early age, Ysasha could actually dance before she walked, nevertheless entertain before she talked. She was awarded at 16 as the Most Unique Best Hip Hop Dancer for “Talent America” in Brooklyn, N.Y. Ysasha, tour along with recording artist Martii Gonzales from “Tha Toonz”, OTN, Paquito Guzman, and El Grupo Niche. Ysasha has also performed at the Mohegan Sun and TD Bank North Arenas as one of Phunk Phenomenon company dancers for the half-time shows at the Celtics and the SUNS WNBA games. Both members have a history in the making that has surpassed the test of time. With an incredible array of talents such as acting, singing, and songwriting M.Y. have enough experience to command any entertainment medium. Even though each chose a different path to pursue their hearts desire, their passion for music is what unites them together as the dynamic duet. Each individual member has superlative solo achievements to sound, feel and sell like a modern female pop group would. Their style of music it’s a unique blend of Urban, Latin and Pop music. M.Y. versatile talents and their independent success has been the result of live performances and publicity through Boston Latino Media Channels. These self-motivated girls are bringing everything from streets fashion to dance routines that will surely make heads turn. M.Y.’s confidence, drive and professionalism will take them anywhere they want to go. Their humble personalities and yet strong character will prove that they are a force to be reckoned with.
