The majority of the time, people define soul by the way one acts, speaks, or how they carry themselves, but once a person hears the lovely harmonic voice of Yolanda (Mz.Yola) Parson, it is undeniable that her soul comes from within. Yolanda has been singing every since she realize what music was. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, where she spent most of her time as a little girl gathering her musical inspiration from local artists such "The Broomer Brothers” which also happen to be her Uncles. She would also go to church and study the way her Aunt Earlyn Thomas would put her church fulfilled runs together. After the late Aunt Ida Jean passed, at the tender age of ten Yolanda took lead in singing "It takes Faith" a spiritual church hymn. Yolanda’s family members knew her voice harmonized with the rest, but even with the harmony Yolanda has always found a way to lead. She has always considered herself a leader especially after being given the honor to lead the praise and worship team at her church. Throughout High school she continued to sing and even tried joining a group with two of her other classmates. They decided to name their high school group K.A.Y, and they were blessed to win a few local contest and also perform at the Grand Opera House for the Battle of the High Schools. Although Yolanda had to continue her journey as a solo artist, she matured and learned a lot from the experience. She attended Lincoln University and participated in the school choir as well as in various talent and music competitions.
