Biography

I've been playing music all my life. I started playing the Bass Guitar professionally in 1969 when I was 16 yrs old with the typical garage band in Miami, Florida. The group was named "Utopia", all the members were of Cuban descend, we had a "Rock Beat" with Spanish lyrics, (a la Santana). We recorded our first album in 1970 with the help of the famous Cuban singer Nico Membiela. This record opened the door to many venues like: TV, Nightclub Gigs, Concerts, etc.....In 1977 I joined the Salsa group "Salsa Express", which had 11 members, including a full horn section from the University of Miami Jazz Band. The band was managed Carlos Oliva under Crossover Enterprises, Inc. And represented by King Music Associates ran by Walter B. Walters, we recorded several records under the "Common Cause" label. We played mostly Nightclubs, but we were sponsored by the Miller Beer Co. to play the 1st "Calle Ocho" party in Little Havana. We also played at the Orange Bowl Stadium sharing the stage with bands like " The Miami Sound Machine", "The Happy Boys" and "The Judge's Nephews". Some of my best memories of playing with "Salsa Express" were playing the Main Street Parade at "Disney World" in Orlando, Florida during the Latin Week Celebration party. There, I met some of the greatest Salsa acts of all time like, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Celio Gonzalez and Adalberto Santiago to name a few.By 1983 I had built my own recording studio and I'd stopped playing clubs. I recorded singers like Xiomara Alfaro and groups of praise like "Soiree" and "Karisma". In the year 2000 I finished putting together a CD with several songs I've been writing through the years and called "Vision Quest". By the time I finished the CD contained a wide variety of music; Salsa, Samba, Pop, Rock, Smooth Jazz and Nu-Wave sounds. On the "Vision Quest" CD I did everything: wrote the songs, lyrics, sang the lead vocals, background vocals, played all instruments, recording, production, mixing and mastering. I am now working on a new CD soon to be completed. Once again it will be a mixture of different styles of music.Notice: All music and lyrics are protected by Copyright Law © and are the property of Artist, Nelson Suarez.
