Regrets. We don’t know who they are, or even if they’re still together. But, judging from this mid-fi demo, Nevastate hovers in that neverland of hardcore/metalmind hybrids. While the rhythm section chugs with a HC passion, the voice guy blurts bloodclots like GG Allin, as the lone guitar wrangler lets loose with a flurry of Vai/Malmsteen arpeggios. Sounds wild? You bet. Sounds like they could use some editing? You better you bet. We dig the fire and desire that run through these half-dozen flame throwers, but Nevastate pounce all over the map (and not in quick-twist mode like Mr. Bungle). What they really need is a focal concentration of sound and a collective dynamic. Which must read like some highbrow crit-talk,. But it’s their first time up at the plate, and they still got a couple of strikes to go.
