After the dissolution of Oklahoma-based garage rock outfit Highwired, drummer Mark Everhart and guitarist/songwriter John Finnerty started taking stock of their musical aspirations, influences, and blunders. Mark gathered some minimal recording equipment to try his hand at writing and creating demos in Oklahoma City. By the summer of 2005, Mark was uploading song ideas to John in his Tulsa home studio, beginning a unique musical collaboration across a 100 mile fiber of the Turner Turnpike. Mark’s first real crack at songwriting was met with John’s desire to puree his ideas using software, synthesizers and cheap drum machines. Complete songs and demos were left behind as collateral damage in the mission of finding the sound of New Politicians, whose name was taken from an early song title. The result is an 8 song watershed that illuminates the talents and indulgences of both members over 3 years of file-swapping and sonic exploration.
