Growing up, "9 Degrees" was exposed to little hip-hop in his family with his parents preferring Artists such as “ The Beatles, Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan” Looking back the closest "9 Degrees" came to enjoying their music was on the rare occasion his mother listened to “ Bob Marley or The Fugees ” Like Many "9 Degrees" had his first taste of the lyrics that were to inspire him to follow in the footsteps of his father and put pen to paper from Rap/HipHop Artist “ Eminem ” "9 Degrees" was 12 years old when his sister bought home “ The Slim Shady LP ” He recalls them listening to it over and over whenever his parents were out. We used to fight over who understood his lyrics more. Probably neither of us understood them but what we did understand was; He was just like us He was rebelling against the system He was smashing statistics It was at this point "9 Degrees" started writing down his every thought and stashing them under his bed in his journey to be a rapper. He would give up a year later after being pushed towards careers “More suitable” to “The economy” His mother recalls regularly hearing his teachers say “ He is clever but he doesn’t try” or “ He could be anything if he put his mind to it ” These comments only confused him more after constantly being told “ You can’t be this, You can’t be that ” "9 Degrees" would then spend the majority of the rest of his Academic life scorned and hating the systematic education that stole his dream. He would never really find the career he wanted to pursue, enrolling on an Engineering Course at the last minute after being told by his mother to study or get a job. He did both, starting a part time job in a local hotel. Once again "9 Degrees" could never get to grips with this career path preferring to spend more time earning money than studying. During "9 Degrees" final year of College he would learn he was going to father his first child. This would be the turning point in "9 Degrees" mind. He kept his head down, excelling in college and securing a full - time job. He now had something to Live for, Someone to provide for, Someone to make Dreams reality for, Unknown to "9 Degrees" these events at such a young age would lead to his work being discovered nearly a decade later by his mother clearing out his old room. This would be the moment that would re-ignite his Chase For The Dream
