nu-boy / d.jones “NU” a.k.a. “D.Jones” Derek Jones epitomizes the Urban American Dream. Born in the 80s to teenage parents in the inner city of Baltimore Maryland a world where the odds against him out weighed the evens, Derek found solace in music. As a toddler at the age 3, Derek discovered a sales ad for an electronics store. His Grandmother accounted that he had taken the ad, perfectly folding the edges of the paper along the corners showcasing a boom box. Derek would stand and sing the chorus to the 1988 Kool Moe Dee hit Wild Wild West, it was evident that Derek had a special place in his imagination and in his heart for hip-hop music. Primarily raised by his Mother, Derek moved to the South at a young age. Too old to abandon the ways of his early childhood in Baltimore Derek found himself in hot water both in school, and at home. Figuring he’d do better in his home town Derek moved back to Park heights in Baltimore City with his Grandmother. It wasn't soon after that he adapted to the struggles of America's inner city youth where he was in for a role of the life. Surrounded by the crack cocaine epidemic, Where TV series such as HBO's "The Corner" and "The Wire" Commercially Broadcasts a glimpse of what life was like for Derek he played his part for real. It was through music that he was able to dream bigger. These dreams nearly over shadowed by serving a full life sentence to "the ghetto" and its striving stray of gang violence, street hustling and Penalties of law enforcement Derek transformed himself into "NU-Boy" with one goal in mind, to focus his time and energy towards a more constructive outlet, Music. Inspired by artists of all generations and genres "NU-Boy" set out to create and find his own target audience. Introduced by a mutual friend to BLACKSMITH Entertainment's CEO Dave Smith, Dave found himself impressed with Derek's from the heart style and authenticity. Dave felt "NU-Boy" would make the perfect fit for his new label, "Pennsylvania Avenue Artists", which was in the final stages of development but there was only one catch. With the new label Dave felt the word “Boy” should be dropped from “NU” and his birth name “D.Jones”, would be a better descriptor of his growth not only as an individual, but as an artist. "Nu" or “D.Jones” has a relentless street mentality with the appeal to be beloved by the ladies and respected by the fellas. His first album "Charm City", was released in 2009 to rave reviews. Along with the successful record sales and radio spins in the Northeast, “NU” promises to be a story of hope and faith through music."
