Question. What do you get when you combine a poet with a high IQ and a banging instrumental? Answer, Nyce Hoffa. This lyricist, Nyce Hoffa has garnered comparisons to emcees such as Jadakiss, DMX, and Tupac. Poised to take over what some critics perceive as a mundane rap game, his beginnings tell the tale of struggle, creativity, and perseverance. Nyce Hoffa, a Paterson NJ resident started using writing as a vice at a very young age. Having a strict, single Jamaican mother meant a lot of days inside surrounded by books. Problems at home soon left him searching for an out. Writing became that escape. He became heavily moved and influenced by Tupac Shakur. Using mainly poetry to vent his frustrations, he soon became an accomplished writer. Awards in school for these talents would soon follow. These talents however could not protect him from the allure of the street life he saw around him everyday. After dabbling in the “hustlers lifestyle”, his mother soon saw his potential downfall and took action. She believed heavily in education, which leads her to put him in good schools, outside of their neighborhood. This steadied his focus. Starting in late 2000 he began writing to instrumentals and free styling. Later on in 2001 he met Kese Soprano, and created the duo now known as “Tha Wrong Onez”. His journey would soon begin. Starting modestly in ciphers and freestyle battles, he developed venomous rhymes, as well as confidence in his ability. With little income and less knowledge of the nuances of recording, he recorded with a Sony Play station, a mixer, and a Radio Shack microphone. This setup permitted only one take per song. This potential setback help sharpen both his and his rap partner’s recording skills, mic presence and chemistry. He soon moved on to a 4 track, then a 6 track. With this he put together his 1st mix tape. Catching up with the time, Kese Soprano purchased a Roland vs 1824 for them to record on. They both started out as solo and group artists on local label, “Zooie Records”. He felt the artists got very little direction and guidance. Refusing to be deterred, Nyce Hoffa went on to record a slew of solo and group mix tapes. These included, “The Indictment”, and “Welcome To Silk City”. He received excellent reviews from local DJ pools. He soon upgraded to the industry standard Pro Tools. In late 2005, he met and impressed former Def Jam artist, Lady Luck. He recorded several songs with her and took part on a mini tour with her that same year. He then released his street acclaimed mix tape, “Can You Hear Me Now? Vol 1”. “The Resurrection” soon followed. In the summer of 2007 he traveled with Kese Soprano to California and purchased a small distribution company, and quickly turned it into Smart Money Enterprises. Their Indie label. Since then many more songs, club singles and mix tapes have followed, as well as an ever growing online following. Armed with determination, and uncanny lyrical abilities, this young CEO is poised to bring about a Hip Hop renaissance.
