Amongst many other titles, recording artist Nyrie describes herself, first and foremost, as a new-school musician. Her habit for song-writing started in a town outside Boston, Massachusetts where Nyrie was raised in her Armenian and Irish culture. Amongst many other titles, recording artist Nyrie describes herself, first and foremost, as a new-school musician. Her habit for song-writing started in a town outside Boston, Massachusetts where Nyrie was raised in her Armenian and Irish culture. After tragically losing close family members and too many friends, she turned to poetry as a form of therapy to cope with her grief. She also found comfort in collecting and listening to music, which became an obsession. Her biggest influences include; Lauryn Hill, TLC, Salt n’ Pepa, Lil’ Kim, Tupac, Notorious BIG, JayZ, Nas, Missy Elliott, NERD and WuTang. Nyrie enjoys a diversity of music but developed a strong love for hip-hop, identifying most with the songs that explain coming up from the struggle. Studying English/Communications at Emmanuel College in Boston, Nyrie participated in the BSUpoetry slam.Finding this platform catalyzed Nyrie to continue writing more flows for the slams. Soon after, Nyrie felt comfortable in the cipher, free-styling and recording tracks. After Nyrie received her degree, she continued collaborating with different artists and relocated to New Jersey. Nyrie has performed at venues such as; The 40/40 club, The Middle East, The Berklee Performing Arts Center, Fantasea, The Dublin House, The Underground and Whiskey’s. Nyrie’s strong work ethic was instilled in her at a young age. She honed her writing and business skills as a contributing editor and columnist of The Alewife Newspaper and was a contributor for The Somerville Newspaper. For a few years, Nyrie also produced and hosted a weekly television program called, ‘New Girl on Da Block’ on CCTV, Cambridge Community Television. On a live set, she would discuss the news of the week, uncensored and interviewed various artists, politicians and business people in the area. Nyrie’s style is very socially conscious yet she can be edgy and real. Nyrie considers her songs artistic commentary on our society, in general, using her music as a public outlet to relay her views on the complexities of being a woman.
