Ok Deadman are an alternative rock band from Manchester, UK. They consist of Jacob Cordingley (guitar/vocals), Leanne Ayres (cello), Benjamin Hunter (guitar) and Edward Kibblewhite (bass). The band’s origins go back to 2005 when school friends Jacob and Ben began jamming together in bedrooms and eventually recorded a two track demo CD of Jacob’s songs with a couple of other musicians at Airtight Studios in Manchester. The pair continued to collaborate during their University vacations, until 2008 when Jacob graduated and returned to Manchester permanently. They had decided in the winter of 2007 that they would form a band on Jacob’s return. They quickly recruited Ed on bass and Lee Corfield on drums. Lee left the band shortly after it started and the band recruited Paul Waters in his place. Paul left the band in February 2009 and has not yet been replaced. The band’s growing tendencies towards orchestral sounds, encouraged them to take on cellist Leanne Ayres in March 2009. The band are currently working on a five track demo EP in their home studio which is due to be released on free download in the coming months. Drums on these five new tracks have been recorded by guitarist Ben. Ok Deadman come from an indie-rock background but have been heavily influenced by post-rock bands such as Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Mogwai as well as prog rock, new wave, pop punk, heavy rock and the alternative bands of the last two decades such as Radiohead, Muse, Editors, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, Interpol, Blur, Bloc Party. Their sound ranges from sharp angular indie to vast, expansive, melodramatic post-rock. The subject matter is often dark, from bleak predictions of the future to distopian nightmares to the neurotic personality of primary songwriter Jacob.
