Artist Information Biography NEWS FLASH!!! We'd like to say THANK YOU to KANYE WEST for posting Oveous Maximus on his Blog for the Shining Down Remix w/ Lupe Fiasco. to see more visit Kanye's Blog site. --url-- http://tinyurl.com/m97fr5 BIO: Before Oveous came to light, there was a kid named Ovil Salcedo who loved all things creative. Him and his younger brother Carlos-Paul, grew up in New York City together under the surveillance of a single mother. It was in the Bronx and Washington Heights where these two boys discovered the richness and flavor of Jazz, Latin, Soul, Hip Hop, and off-course the wonderful world of video games. A few years later they found themselves calling Miami Beach home. A single mother raising her two sons alone and working 2 jobs to feed and protect them from the ever alluring trouble makers in the hood. She succeeded. The boys found themselves occupied with Bmx biking, Nintendo, and this interesting new form of poetry to them called Rap. The two brothers moved back up north but decided to take two very distinct paths in life. Ovil earned himself a BFA in graphic design and abandoned his love for spitting raps. On the other hand, Carlos-Paul aka Ziiinc Blue took a serious liking to the art of rapping. He would share his verses with Ovil during lunch breaks. And it was then that Ovil witnessed the genius of his brother's gift as a lyricist. Ovil wanted to take Carlos to the one place he knew could get his brother some much needed exposure. The world famous Nuyorican Poets Cafe. But Carlos was not like Ovil. He was not a social magnet and life's hardship had brought Carlos into a deep depression. On the night of October 8th, 2002... Carlos-Paul Salcedo took his own life. The death of Ziiinc Blue became the birth of Oveous Maximus. When Oveous, who's never written a poem, decides to take his own brand of "rap/spokenword" to the massive crowd at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in honor of his brother's gift. The result was an electrifying standing ovation that would carry him thru a career of inspiration and purpose. Oveous has become a Powerful voice that has cultivated a tremendous following, based on an uncompromising allegiance to breathing real life into his words and an undying commitment to keeping his late brother's gift of lyricism alive. He is the music and voice we've been all waiting for. He's had the honor of working and recording with great producers and legends such as grammy award winners Roy Ayers, Louie Vega, and Osunlade (Yoruba records) just to name a few. In 2005, Oveous became an honorary member of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. From 2006 to 2008 he became part of the louderARTS U.S. National Poetry Slam team where he placed as a finalist three years in a row. During this time he also cemented his reputation as a lyrical force when he received standing ovations as a multiple winner at the "Apollo theater" and also on the hit series "HBO Def Poetry". Which led him to a leading role in the critically acclaimed film SP!T. 2009 saw the rise of Oveous as a musician when he teamed up with the likes of Louie Vega and Osunlade. Oveous will be featured on Louie Vega's next "Elements of Life" album and already has two hit records with Osunlade "I Apologize" and the now classic "Mirror Dance" on Yoruba Records.
