When dealing with a general cultural insecurity with regards to anything foreign, a blank look and an "oh..." are the easiest escape. PARAE started with Tommi (Drums/Percussion) and Eriq (Guitar/Synth/Vocals) recording at home for like a long time. Along the way in 2007, we compiled and self released a double album of thirty tunes (Meta Ambigue). Tired of struggling to play out and perform as a duo without subjecting the audience to the indignity of backing tracks or a laptop, we miraculously found Corey (Bass/Vocals) and Jimo (Guitars/Piano/Vocals - formerly of 99 Hearts and More, Nmotos, the Audience, and a formidable body of solo work) and transformed into something new. A: "What kind of music do you guys play?" B: "Fucked up pop music." A: "..." B: "You know, poppy music, that's kinda fucked up." Our modus operandi is that we are whatever we want, therefore we are whatever we choose. We are essentially comprised of four omnisexual music nerds whose' musical listening pleasure runs across a landscape of genre. There is no place to say, "well that's not our kind of band, that's not our sound." There are only good ideas of which we can pursue and manipulate with the goal of exploring and learning through each others' influence to become better at whatever it is we do. Sometimes we're serious and emotional, and sometimes we are silly and fun. Above all, we strive to be alive and completely energetic. We choose to perform and record only with live instruments. That means, no programming, no midi, and definitely no fucking autotune. While we fully embrace the ease of use of digital technology, we strive to constantly challenge ourselves to authenticity. We are currently finishing up our debut record as a collaborative unit for release in spring 2009.
